Founded in 1976, Social Action Ministries (SAM) organizes and educates clergy and lay leaders about homelessness. Now a program of MHSA, SAM encourages the involvement of all faiths in legislative advocacy to end homelessness.
Here are a few of the ways that your faith community can get involved in the upcoming months.
Educate yourself, your congregation, and your local community about the problem.
Learn about current efforts to end - not merely manage - homelessness in Massachusetts. We’d be happy to connect you with local service providers or speak with your social action group or entire congregation. You can also engage your local legislators and voice your support for programs that change the status quo; visit www.wheredoivotema.com to find out who your legislators are.
Local and Statewide Interfaith Collaboration
Build relationships with others in your community dedicated to finding solutions to homelessness. SAM can help you get more involved or share your congregation’s work with other faith communities locally or statewide.
Share Your Ideas
As we connect people of faith across Massachusetts dedicated to the vision of a society in which no one is without a home, it is important that we understand how the insights of our various faiths shape our commitment to working for a more just world. Let us know what your faith community is already doing to address the issue of homelessness. We look forward to hearing from you!
