MHSA 2010 Annual Meeting

MHSA Honors Thomas M. Menino, Mayor of the City of Boston

Lyndia Downie of Pine Street Inn, Barbara Ferrer of the Boston Public Health Commission and Joe Finn of MHSA

MHSA member agencies, donors, young professionals and members of the MHSA Board of Directors attended the MHSA 2010 Annual Meeting on Tuesday, December 28 at the Boston law firm of Mintz Levin. The event honored Thomas M. Menino, Mayor of the City of Boston, for his unyielding resolve and commitment to ending homelessness.

Under the leadership of Mayor Menino, the City of Boston has seen a 30 percent reduction in homeless individuals since 2005. Click here to read a press release about it. Furthermore, Boston’s Leading the Way III housing strategy has been successful in housing 128 of the 569 identified long-term shelter stayers in Boston (22.5 percent) in less than one year and was recently recognized as a best practice in the United States Conference of Mayors’ annual Hunger and Homelessness Survey.

After attendees enjoyed hors d'oeuvres, beverages and conversation, MHSA Board Member Dean Atkins, associate at Mintz Levin, welcomed everyone to the meeting. MHSA Executive Director Joe Finn reviewed MHSA's accomplishments over the past year, emphasizing the strides made by MHSA member agencies in ending homelessness. Pine Street Inn Executive Director and MHSA Board Member Lyndia Downie then shared her personal experience of Mayor Menino’s commitment to ending homelessness. Boston Public Health Commission Executive Director Barbara Ferrer, who accepted the award on behalf of the mayor, thanked homeless service providers for their dedication and shared the mayor’s conviction that we cannot rest until homelessness does not exist in Boston.
