In Their Own Words: A Forum on Youth Homelessness
More than 70 young professionals, service providers and advocates gathered on Tuesday, November 16, 2010, for In Their Own Words: A Forum on Youth Homelessness. The event was held at Harvard-Epworth United Methodist Church in Cambridge, the location of Youth on Fire, a drop-in center for homeless and street-involved youth. Mark Evans of Bridge Over Troubled Waters, which offers a range of services for high-risk, runaway and homeless youth, and Ayala Livny of Youth on Fire shared remarks about youth homelessness and the ways their agencies respond to the challenges faced by this unique population. As part of the panel, young adults who have experienced homelessness shared their personal stories and reflected on the challenges of being homeless as well as their plans for the future.
In Their Own Words was hosted by the MHSA Young Professionals Group (YPG), which is dedicated to engaging young leaders in efforts to end homelessness. If you are interested in becoming more involved with MHSA YPG, please contact Caitlin Golden at cgolden@mhsa.net or 617.367.6447 ext. 28.
